French President Emmanuel Macron arrived at the White House Monday morning ahead of a meeting later in the day with his counterpart Donald Trump.
Their meeting is at noon local time (19:00 in Greece) on Monday. This will be followed by a lunch and a joint press conference between the two men at 15:00 (22:00 local time).
This was preceded by a teleconference of G7 leaders, with the French leader participating from the White House.
Emmanuel Macron is expected to present “proposals for action” to Donald Trump to counter the Russian threat in Europe and ensure sustainable peace in Ukraine, against the backdrop of the Russian-American rapprochement.
As a reminder, Trump will meet with British Prime Minister Kir Starmers on Thursday.
Trump announced a few days ago that he wants to negotiate a peace plan with Russian President Vladimir Putin on his own, while at the same time, he does not miss the opportunity to attack his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky.
Europeans fear that this plan will mean Kyiv’s surrender (if not treason against Ukraine) and give Russia an excuse to continue to threaten its neighbors, including EU members such as the Baltic states.
