The temperature is gradually rising, but there will be no shortage of rain, according to ERT meteorologist Nikoleta Ziakopopoulou. The phenomena will be more in western Greece and the Aegean Sea with possible strong storms in the Cyclades and Crete.

For his part, Giorgos Tsatrafyllias said in a Facebook post that there will be south winds and several showers until Friday, February 28. Thursday and Friday, he stressed, there will be thunderstorms mainly in western and southern Greece and the eastern Aegean, “reverse Pi (π).”

Quoting maps of accumulated rainfall from two reputable global forecast models, the meteorologist noted that “the temperature will show a gradual rise”. In fact, it is predicted to reach 17 to 18 degrees in the west and south of the country on Friday.

Regarding the three-day Easter Monday weekend, according to the Alpha meteorologist, from Saturday onwards it looks like cold weather, northerly winds and snow will come back down to lower altitudes.
The temperature approached -9 degrees yesterday morning

Negative minimum temperatures were recorded in the morning hours of Monday 24/02 in several areas mainly in the northern continental parts, with the lowest minimum temperature recorded in Vyrsini Rodopi at -8.6 °C.

According to the network of automatic weather stations of the National Observatory of Athens/meteo.gr the eight lowest minimum temperatures of the day are presented in the table below.

Today’s weather

Increased clouds are expected across the country. Rain is expected in the Ionian and Aegean islands, which will be heavier on the northeastern Aegean islands, the Cyclades and Crete, where a few thunderstorms may occur. On the mainland, the weather will be unsettled with showers in places and at times and occasional snowfall in the mountains. Snowfall will also occur at higher altitudes in the mountainous areas of Crete.

The temperature will range in Western Macedonia from -4 to 11 degrees, in the rest of northern Greece from -6 to 8 degrees, in Epirus from 5 to 16 degrees, in Thessaly from 3 to 15-16 degrees, in the rest of the mainland from 4 to 14-16 degrees, in the Ionian Islands from 8 to 15 degrees, in the North Aegean islands from 3 to 9-10 degrees and in the rest of the Aegean islands and in Crete from 6 to 15-17 degrees.

In the Aegean Sea winds will blow from southern directions with 4-5 Beaufort winds, but from noon in the southernmost seas they will increase to 6 Beaufort and will gradually shift to northwest. In the Ionian Sea, winds will blow from variable directions with intensities of 3-5 Beaufort.

In Attica we expect clouds, with showers in some places. Winds will blow from southern directions with intensities 2-4 Beaufort. The temperature will range from 9 to 14-15 degrees Celsius.

In Thessaloniki we expect cloudy weather with an increased chance of passing showers. Winds will blow from variable directions with intensities of 2-3 Beaufort. The temperature will range from 5 to 11 degrees Celsius.

The weather on Wednesday 26-02-2025

Partly cloudy with light local rain mainly in the west, central and southern mainland, Evia, Cyclades, the eastern Aegean islands and Crete. Visibility in the morning and evening hours on the mainland will be locally limited.

Winds will blow from southern directions 3 to 4 Beaufort and from the evening in the Ionian Sea 4 to 5 Beaufort.

The temperature will rise slightly further and will be at normal seasonal levels. It will reach 11 to 14 degrees Celsius in the north and 15 to 17 degrees Celsius in the rest of the regions.

The weather on Thursday 27-02-2025

Throughout the country, clouds are forecasted with local rain initially in the west, the eastern and southern islands and gradually in the rest of the country. Sporadic thunderstorms will occur initially in the western seaside coastal areas, from the afternoon hours in the Cyclades and gradually in the eastern Aegean. The phenomena in the west are likely to be strong in places.

Winds will blow south-southwest 3 to 4 and in the sea locally 5 Beaufort.

The temperature will not change significantly.

The weather on Friday 28-02-2025

In the north and the Aegean clouds with showers and mainly in the eastern Aegean sporadic thunderstorms. Until noon in the eastern Aegean Sea the phenomena are likely to be strong, gradually weakening. In the rest of the country a few clouds, partly cloudy with local rain. Visibility in the morning and evening hours on the mainland will be locally limited.

Winds will blow in the west from the north at 3 to 4 Beaufort and in the Ionian Sea locally 5 Beaufort. In the east it will initially blow from southerly directions 4 to 5 Beaufort, quickly in the north and gradually in the remaining areas will turn to northerly 4 to 5 Beaufort and locally in the north 6 Beaufort.

The temperature will not change significantly.

The weather on Saturday 01-03-2025

A few clouds, partly cloudy with light local showers. Visibility in the morning and evening hours on the mainland will be locally limited.

Winds will blow from the north 3 to 4 and locally in the Aegean Sea 5 Beaufort.

The temperature will drop slightly in the northeast.
