Donald Trump is opening a trade war with the European Union as well, announcing Wednesday that he will impose 25% tariffs on goods from Europe.
On Wednesday he said he will impose a 25% tariff on products from Europe, marking the beginning of a trade war with the European Union.
The tariffs, he said, “will generally apply to cars and other things.”
Trump further elaborated, in his typical blunt style, on the purpose of the EU: “It was created to screw the US, and they’ve done a good job.”
When asked about the possibility of a European response, Trump replied, “They can’t do anything. They will try, but they can’t. Their retaliation won’t succeed because we won’t care, and we won’t buy anything. If that happens, we will win.”
