Students and citizens of Serbia gathered today in front of the Greek embassy in Belgrade to pay tribute to the 57 victims of the Tempi tragedy and to stand in solidarity with the Greek people.
The gathering was organized by the students of the University of Belgrade. At 11:00 a.m., the Greek students who are studying in Belgrade arrived outside the Greek embassy.
“The accident in Tempi was not just a tragic event; it was an awakening. 57 lives were lost unjustly, and with them, the innocence of a whole generation was lost. We do not remain silent, we do not forgive, we do not forget, and we do not get used to it. Justice is not a luxury; we must fight for the people who were unjustly lost and for those who were left behind with unanswered questions,” student Eleftheria Tsakiridou told APE-MPA.
The Serbian students marched from the Faculty of Philosophy to the Greek embassy.
At the head of the march of Serbian students was a large banner that read: “Your struggle is our struggle!”
Aleksandar, a student of the Faculty of Engineering at the Polytechnic, said that “Serbian students are today honoring the 57 victims of the tragedy in Tempe along with the 15 victims in Novi Sad. The two peoples must demonstrate our solidarity, especially now, when we are going through difficult times.”
The commemoration event was also attended by ordinary citizens who, showed their solidarity with the Greek people.
At 11:52, a 16-minute silence was observed in memory of the 57 victims in Tempi and the 15 people killed by the fall of the cornice at the Novi Sad railway station on November 1, 2024.
The event in memory and honor of the victims of Tempi was concluded with the laying of a wreath in front of the Greek embassy by a representative of the Serbian students.
