Clashes are currently unfolding near the Thessaloniki railway station, sparked when a group of individuals at the tail end of a march—held to mark two years since the Tempi train disaster—moved toward the police.
The individuals, wearing hoods, began throwing Molotov cocktails, stones, and bottles at the officers. In response, police fired tear gas and chemical agents to disperse them.
The Protest in Thessaloniki
A large crowd gathered in downtown Thessaloniki today to demonstrate on the second anniversary of the Tempi tragedy. In a symbolic act of mourning, protesters released dozens of black balloons into the sky in remembrance of the victims.
The protest was scheduled to begin at Venizelos Statue, with a march set to proceed toward Aristotelous Square.
