“The situation in the labor market is one of the most critical indicators both for the course of an economy and social welfare,” Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in a Facebook post, commenting on the decline in unemployment.
According to official ELSTAT data – the prime minister said – unemployment in January 2025 fell to 8.7 percent, 3 percentage points lower than last year, reaching its lowest level since December 2008.
“The unemployed fell to 408.2 thousand – the lowest level since November 2008 – while the employed rose to 4.29 million,” he added, concluding:
“This improvement is not by chance. It is the result of targeted policies that boost growth and investment by creating more and more well-paid jobs. And we will continue to do so.”
