A significant quantity of cocaine was seized in a container of bananas coming from Ecuador and destined for Piraeus as part of a joint audit action by auditors from ADEA and the Attica State Tax Office.
More specifically, during the inspection at the 3rd Piraeus Customs Office using a self-propelled X-ray vehicle, a suspicious organic substance was detected in the external cooling mechanism of the container.
After a positive reading and the KYBERR drug-sniffing dog followed a physical search, 45 packets of cocaine were seized, totalling a gross weight of 54 kilograms. The value of the seized cocaine is estimated at approximately €2.35 million.
The investigation is continuing, and a possible link between the case and other similar cases is being examined as part of efforts to dismantle an international drug import and trafficking ring.
