From today the digital library eVivlio of Ministry of Education, which offers free access to 20 literary works in audio format via the evivlio.gov.gr website and Android and iOS apps.
This initiative is part of the 11 + 1 major changes announced by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Thessaloniki International Fair 2024 to improve the educational process in schools across the country.
In particular, in all grades, from kindergarten to grade 3 Lykeio, the reading of entire literary works by leading Greek/Greek and foreign authors, as well as the Homeric epics (Odyssey) is introduced instead of individual extracts as was done until now. Listening to or reading these works offers students a more meaningful connection with the text, expands their imagination and further cultivates their critical thinking and love of books. The recordings of all the works are original and were made especially for the application of the Ministry of National Defence, with the valuable and selfless assistance of well-known Greek artists.
In eVivlio, in the first phase, 20 literary books are being introduced, which are available from today on the platform, while they will be distributed in printed form to school units, so that students have both options. The books have been selected on the basis of their pedagogical value and also on the basis of the absence of copyright on their authors. This fact allows for their immediate availability to students and teachers alike.
At the same time, the process of information and training of teachers regarding the ways of utilization and use of printed books and the new digital library will be developed in order to enrich the learning process.
The available books posted on the eVivlio platform are the following:
