EuroBasket 2025: Greece draws tough group with Spain, Italy, and other teams

A challenging road ahead

Newsroom March 27 05:24

The stage is set for an electrifying EuroBasket 2025, as Greece’s national basketball team has learned its group-stage opponents following today’s highly anticipated draw in Riga, Latvia. The Greek squad will face Spain, Italy, Cyprus, Georgia, and Bosnia & Herzegovina in Group C, with all games set to take place in Limassol, Cyprus, from August 28 to September 4.

A Challenging Road Ahead

Greece knew it would be placed in Group C alongside co-host Cyprus, which exercised its right to select a “partner country” for the tournament. That decision ensured the Greek squad would play in Limassol, but the draw added serious competition to their path. Heavyweights Spain and Italy—both powerhouses of European basketball—are among the teams Greece must battle to advance.

FIBA Europe legends Nikos Zisis and Rudy Fernández conducted the draw, setting up some high-profile clashes across all four groups.

Tournament Overview

EuroBasket 2025 will feature 24 teams split into four groups of six, competing across four host nations: Latvia, Finland, Poland, and Cyprus. The top four teams from each group will move on to the knockout rounds.

Here’s a look at how the groups shape up:

  • Group A (Riga, Latvia): Latvia, Estonia, Portugal, Turkey, Czech Republic, Serbia
  • Group B (Tampere, Finland): Finland, Lithuania, Sweden, Great Britain, Montenegro, Germany
  • Group C (Limassol, Cyprus): Cyprus, Greece, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Georgia, Italy, Spain
  • Group D (Katowice, Poland): Poland, Iceland, Belgium, Israel, Slovenia, France

Greece’s Schedule

Greek fans, mark your calendars! The national team will open its campaign against Italy on August 28 before facing Cyprus in a much-anticipated showdown on August 30. The battle continues with games against Georgia (August 31), Bosnia & Herzegovina (September 2), and a massive clash against Spain on September 4.
