The situation regarding healthcare coverage on the Greek islands remains unchanged, as authorities have already begun the annual “hunt” to find doctors to staff Health Centers and Regional Clinics ahead of Easter. The shortages in medical personnel are long-standing, despite the financial incentives offered for remote areas, and become even more apparent during the summer with the spike in tourist arrivals.
The 2nd Regional Health Authority (Piraeus and Aegean) posted a call for interest the day before yesterday, inviting doctors of the National Health System (NHS) from across the country, specializing in General or Family Medicine or Internal Medicine, to relocate and strengthen the Health Units of the islands for the Easter period.
“Expenses for transportation, accommodation, travel allowances, on-call duties, and an additional compensation of €2,100 per month are covered,” the call states.
The Health Units for which the 2nd RHA is seeking doctors are the following:
Tinos Health Center, Ios Health Center, Milos Health Center, Herakleia Regional Clinic, Schoinoussa Regional Clinic, Koufonissi Regional Clinic, Donoussa Regional Clinic, Serifos Regional Clinic, Anafi Regional Clinic, Folegandros Regional Clinic, Sikinos Regional Clinic, Patmos Health Center, Symi Health Center, Lipsi Regional Clinic, Tilos Regional Clinic, Chalki Regional Clinic, Agathonisi Regional Clinic.
