A significant blow against drug smuggling and trafficking was struck by AADE inspectors at customs, with the detection of more than 62 kilograms of cocaine, in a container with bananas coming from Ecuador and destined for the port of Thessaloniki.
According to a statement, while conducting random checks at the 1st Thessaloniki Customs, using a self-propelled X-Ray, 55 packages of cocaine hidden in the refrigeration mechanism of the container with fresh bananas were detected and seized. The value of the seized cocaine is estimated at approximately €2.3 million.
Customs inspectors, in cooperation with ELAS, immediately proceeded with the seizure of the drugs, with the investigation to identify the perpetrators ongoing.
