In an official statement, the European Commission announced that as part of the EU’s efforts to reach a negotiated solution with the United States, “EU Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič is currently in Washington to meet with his American counterparts in order to explore the possibility of a negotiated agreement.”
The Commission emphasized that “if the talks do not prove satisfactory, the EU’s countermeasures will be implemented,” while also noting that preparatory work continues for additional EU countermeasures.
Finally, the Commission stated that it has issued two legal acts today: one to impose the EU’s countermeasures and another to suspend all these measures until July 14, 2025.
