Hellenic Train announced that on Holy Monday afternoon (April 14), train 1551, operating the suburban route Chalkida–Athens with 51 passengers onboard, was immobilized approximately 30 meters from Oinoi station due to a failure in the electrical system.
The Fire Department was immediately notified and, with the assistance of Hellenic Train staff and the presence of police officers, helped evacuate the passengers and transfer them to the station. From there, they were taken to their final destination by bus.
To ensure the safe evacuation of the passengers, a complete shutdown of the power supply to that section of the network was deemed necessary, resulting in delays to certain Hellenic Train routes.
The cause of the malfunction is under investigation.
