With rising temperatures and a few localized showers in certain areas, Holy Week will roll on, according to the latest weather forecasts. The temperature will gradually rise from today, Good Wednesday, reaching even 26 degrees Celsius, while the outing of the excursionists is expected to continue with favorable weather conditions.
According to the forecast data of meteo.gr / National Observatory of Athens, warm air masses are expected to affect our country until Saturday 19/04. At the same time, a few showers, locally strong winds and slightly increased concentrations of Saharan dust are expected.
Temperatures will rise through Good Thursday, 4/17, and then will drop slightly, but remain slightly above normal for the season.
Local showers or thunderstorms will mainly occur on Good Thursday 17/04 and M. Friday 18/04 in areas of the central and northern part of the country, with more phenomena in the northwest and in the mountains.
Atmospheric conditions will favor the transport of Saharan dust towards our country, but it will not be significant.
Locally strong winds from southern directions will blow until Thursday 17/04, while from Friday 18/04 the prevailing wind directions will be westerly, with their intensity reaching 6 Beaufort locally.
The forecast maps show the deviation of the temperature of the air masses at a height of 1500 meters from the mean sea level on G. Thursday 17/04 and G. Saturday 19/04. As can be seen, on G. Thursday 17/04 the air masses will be 6 to 8°C warmer than normal for the season, while on M Saturday 19/04 they will be 3 to 4°C warmer than normal for the season.
Today’s weather
A few clouds are expected across the country, with locally increasing clouds. During the warmer hours of the day, rain or isolated thunderstorms will occur in mountainous parts of Epirus, Macedonia, Thessaly, Sterea and northern Peloponnese. There is also a possibility of light rainfall at a very local level in the lowlands of the above regions.
The temperature will range in Western Macedonia from 8 to 22 degrees Celsius, in the rest of Macedonia and Thrace from 6 to 22-24 degrees Celsius, in Thessaly from 8 to 26-27 degrees Celsius, in Epirus from 12 to 26-28 degrees Celsius, in the rest of the continent from 9 to 25-27 degrees Celsius, in the Ionian Islands from 14 to 25 degrees Celsius and in the Aegean Islands and Crete from 9 to 23-25 degrees Celsius.
The winds in the Aegean will blow from the north with intensities up to 4 Beaufort and from the afternoon locally in the northern seas 6 Beaufort. In the Ionian Sea, southeastern winds will prevail with intensities of 5-6 Beaufort.
In Attica we expect partly cloudy conditions. Winds will blow from northeastern directions with intensities up to 3 Beaufort. The temperature will range from 15 to 26 degrees.
In Thessaloniki we expect occasionally increasing clouds with the possibility of occasional rain at noon mainly in the mountains. Winds will blow from mainly southern directions with intensities of 2-3 Beaufort. The temperature will range from 12 to 22 degrees Celsius.
The weather on Good Thursday (17/04)
In the east, generally clear weather with sparse clouds, occasionally more dense. In the west, clouds will increase from the midday hours and local rain or rain and isolated thunderstorms will occur, initially in the northern Ionian Sea, from the afternoon hours in Epirus and gradually in western Central Greece, western Macedonia and Thessaly. Meteorological conditions favour the transport of African dust.
Winds in the west will blow southeast 5 to 6 and in the Ionian Sea 7 to 8 Beaufort, but will gradually shift to south southwest and weaken. In the east it will blow east northeast 3 to 5 and in the northern Aegean Sea locally 6 Beaufort.
The temperature will rise slightly further and will be above normal, reaching 25 to 27 degrees Celsius in the west and 23 to 25 degrees Celsius in the rest of the regions.
The weather on Good Friday (18/04)
In the central and northern mainland clouds in places, with local rain or rain of short duration. In the rest of the country the weather will be almost clear. Visibility in the evening hours in the western continents will be limited in places.
The winds will blow from westerly directions 3 to 5 and gradually in the central and southern parts of the country locally 6 Beaufort and only in the northern Aegean Sea until noon will blow east northeastern 4 to 5 Beaufort.
Although the temperature will drop slightly in the Ionian Sea and the mainland, it will remain relatively high for the season.
The weather on Holy Saturday (19/04)
Generally clear weather with a few clouds, occasionally increasing in eastern Macedonia, Thrace and possibly in the northeastern Aegean, where local rain or rain will occur in the midday-afternoon hours. Visibility in the morning and evening hours on the mainland will be limited in places.
Winds will be variable 3 to 4 Beaufort and only in the central and southern parts will blow from westerly directions 4 to 5 and occasionally in the south locally 6 Beaufort.
The temperature will remain at relatively high levels for the season and only in the eastern island country it will drop slightly.
The weather on Easter Sunday (20/04)
Scattered clouds, occasionally and at times more dense with a few local showers or rain of short duration at noon and in the afternoon in the northeastern mainland, mainly in the mountains.
Winds will be variable 3 to 4 and in the south northwest 4 to 5 Beaufort.
The temperature will not change significantly.
