Emergency Weather Alert:
The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) issued a warning yesterday regarding heavy rain and thunderstorms expected in the Dodecanese and Crete until Friday morning. Specifically:

The Dodecanese will experience stormy weather from the afternoon of April 30, while Crete will face similar conditions from the morning of May 1. Conversely, western Greece will enjoy better weather, with high temperatures and sunshine.

May Day Weather Commentary:
Giorgos Tsatrafyllias notes that this year’s May Day will be marked by inclement weather. Storms are expected in the Dodecanese and Crete, accompanied by gusty north winds in the Aegean Sea on Thursday. In contrast, the western regions will enjoy sunshine and temperatures around 25°C, prompting a shift to lighter clothing.

Giannis Kallianos on MEGA TV reports that from the weekend, especially Monday, May 5, temperatures will reach up to 30°C, signaling the onset of summer in many parts of Greece. On Wednesday, the maximum temperature recorded was 27.1°C in Paleo Skylitsi, Imathia—significantly above the seasonal average, particularly in Northern and Western Greece.

Today’s Detailed Weather:
– Clouds will increase in central and southern Greece, with showers and thunderstorms expected in the Cyclades, Crete, East Aegean islands, and Dodecanese. Some storms may be intense, increasing flood risk.
– Temperatures will range from 7°C in Northern Greece (Western Macedonia at 4°C) up to 25°C in the south.
– Winds in the Aegean will be strong to near gale force (6-7 Beaufort) from the north, while Dodecanese winds will be variable and lighter (3-5 Beaufort). The Ionian Sea will experience variable, light to moderate winds (3-4 Beaufort).
