The delay in their activation is attributed, on the one hand, to the lack of a charging station in the city center, and on the other hand, to the reluctance of employees to use them.
The reasons cited are either the increased size of the machines, which they believe hinders their movement, or, as stated by the former Deputy Mayor for Cleaning of the Municipality of Serres, Panagiotis Karakolidis, the concern that they would be monitored via GPS – something that, as it turns out, is not true, as these specific vehicles do not have such a system.
Nevertheless, in other municipalities where the wheelbarrows have been put into operation, they have proven particularly useful, facilitating the work of cleaning crews and improving the quality of services provided to citizens.
The challenge now is to find a solution so that these five machines can be immediately put into operation, in order to utilize the money that was invested and upgrade the city’s cleanliness.
