Stable weather will continue over the next few days with African dust and 30s returning from Friday, however.
According to the Star’s meteorologist former director of the National Weather Service, Thodoros Kolydas, it is the successive disturbances in the upper atmosphere and the accompanying cold masses (at 500hPa) that will cause the unsettled weather on the mainland, but the subtropical airstorm exists only in our broad region, which has shifted further south and is “cutting across” the coast of North Africa. But on Friday it will shift further north and we’ll have dust and warming temperatures mostly in the south at the same time.
In a new post, Kolydas notes that from Thursday to Friday we will be affected by a low coming from the coast of Africa and the Central Mediterranean.
Giorgos Tsatrafyllias also speaks of a new episode of African dust from Friday in his forecast. According to the Alpha meteorologist, the dust “will affect central and southern Greece. It will also bring heat ONLY in the southernmost parts. In northern Crete we will again exceed 32-33 degrees.”
More than 4000 power outages yesterday on the mainland
Thunderstorms occurred on Tuesday 13/05, mainly in the mainland of the country. The phenomena were accompanied by significant electrical activity. According to the recordings of the Lightning Imager instrument of the Meteosat-12 meteorological satellite, from the beginning of the twenty-four hour period until 19:00 GMT, 4072 electrical discharges were recorded over the country’s continental areas. Discharges are defined as the sum of these including lightning (cloud-to-ground discharges), cloud-to-cloud discharges and cloud-to-air discharges.
