Tire Burst Causes Truck to Fall from Petrou Ralli Bridge – Shocking Testimony: “If I Had Been on Foot, I Would Have Been Run Over”

A traffic accident occurred on Thursday night when a truck fell from a bridge onto a side road of Thivon Avenue. The driver was injured and transported to the Attikon Hospital to receive first aid.

According to information from protothema.gr, the cause of the accident appears to be a tire of the truck which burst, resulting in the driver losing control and falling from the bridge.

A witness to the incident described to the camera that he saw a “flash” and then saw the tractor unit that had fallen from the bridge.

“I was coming from Petrou Ralli and first saw the flash because there was a loud bang on the trolley wires, and I saw the tractor that had fallen down. If I had been 20-30 seconds later, it would have fallen on me,” he stated.

“We all went and pulled the person out, gave him some water, and he had glass in his eyes,” he said about the truck driver. According to the witness, the driver was in pain in his eye but, once he got out of the truck, he walked about 10 meters.

“From what they said upstairs, the driver must have been coming from Lambraki and was going straight; there were no brakes below, and he went straight down. I don’t think he was going at high speed, but this is a 40-ton truck,” he added.

A traffic accident involving a truck falling onto the shoulder occurred Thursday afternoon on Thivon Street, causing a traffic jam at the site.

The accident happened in the downward lane, near the intersection with Petrou Ralli.

The truck driver sustained minor injuries.

Traffic police have diverted traffic on Thivon Street, heading towards Peristeri, from the intersection with Kanapitseri Street.
