The European Commission has launched investigations aimed at protecting minors from pornographic content under the Digital Services Act (DSA). The Commission has initiated formal proceedings against the platforms Pornhub, Stripchat, XNXX, and XVideos, which are suspected of breaching the DSA.
The investigations focus on the risks posed to minors, particularly due to the lack of effective age verification measures. The Commission has preliminarily found that these platforms are not complying with the rules and are failing to take adequate steps to prevent minors from accessing their content.
At the same time, member states of the European Digital Services Board are coordinating actions against smaller pornographic platforms.
These efforts will support the Commission’s broader initiative to protect minors from harmful content online, especially in relation to the absence of effective age verification measures.
These smaller platforms fall under the supervision of the respective national Digital Services Coordinators of the EU member state where they are based.
