Since U.S. President Donald Trump took office in January, trafficking of fentanyl from Mexico to the United States has dropped by about 40 percent, President Claudia Seynbaum said.
Trump cited fentanyl trafficking as a factor in his decision to impose tariffs on Mexico.
He later reversed the decision, suspending the tariffs for a month.
Mexico’s president, for her part, announced that she would reinforce her border with the U.S. with about 10,000 troops.
The United States had also made a similar move.
