His family was contacted yesterday by a nursing assistant who mistakenly transfused blood to a 62-year-old patient who is battling to stay alive in the ICU of Gazanios hospital.
According to the president of the hospital’s employees, Dimitris Sideris, the nursing assistant is expected to appear before the authorities soon.
It will be recalled that the family of the 62-year-old woman, who suffered multi-organ deficiency after the wrong transfusion, has taken legal action against him.
Sideris said of his colleague that “the bad time but that patients’ trust in hospital workers and the NHS should not be shaken”. He told ERT that he was a young man of 30, excellent at his job, who on the day the mistake occurred, informed the Director himself of the incident and then disappeared.
For his part, the president of PODEN, Michalis Giannakos, claimed, citing colleagues he spoke to, that the woman’s health is “getting better and it looks like things are going well.”
