The Iranian news agencies Mehr and Tasnim initially reported the death of Hossein Salami, while the state television network IRNA later confirmed the death of Mohammad Bagheri.

Israel today launched a series of airstrikes against Iran, claiming the country was seeking to acquire nuclear weapons, targeting at least one uranium enrichment facility.

The attack came as negotiations between the U.S. and the Islamic Republic over Iran’s nuclear energy program have reached a deadlock. Concerns over an imminent Israeli strike had been mounting for days.

According to a source from the Israeli armed forces cited by Agence France-Presse, “dozens” of strikes were carried out on Iranian nuclear and military facilities across the country.
