The two children who had fallen into the Arachthos River in Arta on Wednesday (June 11) have been declared brain dead.
The parents of 14-year-old Spyros, who jumped into the river to save his drowning friend, have decided to donate the organs of their unfortunate child.
At the location where the students drowned, their friends are leaving flowers. The migrant who dove into the waters to pull the children out was also there.
“We will remember you forever. You left like heroes. Your friends,” reads the note left by their friends at the site of the tragedy.

It is reminded that the two children were underwater for 20 minutes, and it took another 30 minutes or so before CPR began at the Arta hospital, where doctors made a titanic effort to bring them back to life.
They were later transferred to the hospital in Rio, where they were treated in the ICU in critical condition. Approximately two days after the tragic accident, and despite the doctors’ tremendous efforts, the children are now brain dead.
