Weather: Heat and winds persist today – High fire risk in 8 areas

Yesterday the maximum temperature exceeded 37 degrees - EMY forecast for the weekend

Temperatures will remain at unseasonably high levels today, while wind chills persist in the Aegean Sea. According to the National Meteorological Service, local showers and thunderstorms are expected in the midday and afternoon hours in the continental mountainous areas.

The maximum temperature exceeded 37 °C on Thursday 12/06/2025

The temperature on Thursday 12/06/2025 remained at a high level for the season, mainly in Southern Greece, with maximum values exceeding 37 °C locally. The highest maximum temperature was recorded at the weather station in Asteri, Laconia, and was equal to 37.3˚C.

Today’s weather

Generally clear weather is expected with local showers and thunderstorms in the midday and afternoon hours in the continental mountainous areas.

The temperature will range in Western Macedonia from 13 to 29-30 degrees Celsius, in the rest of Macedonia and Thrace from 14 to 32-34 degrees Celsius, in Thessaly from 15 to 34 degrees Celsius, in Epirus from 13 to 33 degrees Celsius, in the rest of the mainland from 14 to 32-34 degrees Celsius, in the Ionian Islands from 16 to 32-34 degrees Celsius, in the Aegean islands and Crete from 15 to 32-34 degrees Celsius (locally in Rhodes and Crete up to 36-38 degrees Celsius).

Winds in the Aegean will blow from the north in general directions with intensities up to 4-5 and locally up to 6 Beaufort. In the Ionian Sea the winds will blow generally northwest with intensities up to 3-4 Beaufort.

In Attica, clear weather is expected. The winds will blow from northerly directions with intensities up to 3-4 and in the east of the prefecture locally up to 5 Beaufort. The temperature will range from 24 to 34-35 degrees Celsius.

In Thessaloniki, generally clear weather is expected. Winds will blow from various directions with intensities of 2-3 Beaufort. The temperature will range from 23 to 33-34 degrees Celsius.

The weather on Saturday, June 14

Generally clear weather with a few clouds and local rain in the western mainland, eastern Macedonia and Thrace in the midday – afternoon hours. In the western highlands isolated thunderstorms are possible.

In the east and west of the region there may be some thunderstorms and rain showers.
Winds will blow from the north from 3 to 5 and in the Aegean Sea 6 to 7 Beaufort.

The temperature will drop slightly in the east. It will reach 28 to 30 degrees Celsius in the Sporades, the Cyclades and northern Crete and 32 to 34 degrees Celsius in the rest of the country.

The weather on Sunday, June 15

Generally clear weather with a few clouds that will increase in the midday – afternoon hours in some places on the mainland and in the mountains there will be local rainfall.

Winds in the west will be variable up to 4 Beaufort. In the east, winds will blow from northern directions 4 to 6 and in the eastern Aegean Sea 7 Beaufort.

The temperature will drop further across the country.
