Big fire in Evia: Forest area burning – Hotel evacuated and 112 sent (video-photos)

65 firefighters with 19 vehicles have been mobilized, while two planes and a helicopter are operating from the air

A major wildfire is currently underway, which broke out in the early hours of Sunday, June 22, in Tsakaii, Southern Evia.

The fire started in a forested area, and according to evima.gr, the police evacuated a hotel located between Tsakaii and Nea Styra. A 112 emergency alert was also sent to residents in the area, urging them to stay prepared and follow the instructions of the authorities.

Strong firefighting forces are operating at the scene. Specifically, 65 firefighters with 19 vehicles have been deployed, along with 4 ground teams (forest commandos), while two airplanes and one helicopter are providing aerial support.

The mayor of Karystos, Lefteris Raviolos, stated to evima.gr: “The fire is large and burning in a forested area. A 112 warning message was sent to residents. We have significant ground forces, but I have also requested and obtained aerial support.”

According to residents of Tsakaii, the fire is moving in the direction of Nea Styra.
