Significant delays are currently being experienced at Eleftherios Venizelos Airport due to the time required for passport control of passengers.
According to reports, the volume of passengers is high, and the number of police officers assigned to passport control is reportedly insufficient for the smooth conduct of the procedure.
The honorary president of the Union of Police Officers of Southeastern Attica, George Kalliakmanis, who had served for years at the airport, spoke to protothema.gr about the issue.
As Mr. Kalliakmanis stated in this regard: “As for the delays that were observed yesterday, there was an issue due to the fires in Pikermi. But in general, we have to see whether the airport is ready in view of the summer season to cope with the increased passenger traffic. It seems that while the airport was reinforced with police officers and cadets, they did not take care to train them with fast-paced seminars so that the passport control process becomes faster and more effective, which is why delays are created and it is certain that if they do not take immediate action the problem will be exacerbated.”
