A fire broke out on the afternoon of Wednesday (July 9) in an agricultural-forest area in Asprochori, in the Municipality of Oropos.
To extinguish the blaze, 60 firefighters with 20 vehicles, 3 ground teams from the 4th EMODE (Special Forest Fire Units), and volunteers have been mobilized, along with 13 firefighting aircraft and 6 helicopters.



Fire Near Residential Area
Speaking to ERT (Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation), the mayor of Oropos, Giorgos Yassimakis, emphasized that the fire is very close to Asprochori and is burning through untouched pine forest.
Due to the fire, traffic is being diverted on Agiou Konstantinou Street from the level of the service road of the Athens–Lamia National Highway (N.E.O. Athinon–Lamias), as well as on Sykaminou Street from the level of the service road of the same highway. At the same time, there is a traffic diversion on the Athens–Lamia service road from the Malakasa junction heading toward Lamia.





Construction machinery and water tankers from local municipalities (OTAs) are also assisting in the firefighting efforts.
