The weather changes from today with high temperatures easing and north winds strengthening, but the coolness will not last long as the country is expected to enter a new heatwave from Sunday.
According to meteorologists, the new week will begin with the thermometer again exceeding 40 degrees Celsius in several areas.
The peak of the heat wave is expected next Friday, July 18, and will affect areas such as the Thessalian plain, areas of the eastern Peloponnese, and Athens. The discomfort, especially in the big cities, will be intense during the evening hours as the temperature will not drop to normal levels.
Meteorologist Giorgos Tsatrafyllias describes the new wave of high temperatures that will hit the country from Sunday, 13 July onwards as “obsessive heat”.
“From tomorrow until Saturday, we will get a breath of fresh air, with the mercury not exceeding 32 -33 degrees. However, from Sunday, two major forecasting centers (European ECMWF and American GFS) give us a signal for a period of prolonged heat, which is not excluded midweek to turn into a heat wave of increased intensity, “he notes, among other things.
