Meteorological shift: Beaufort winds recede, paving the way for Sunday heatwave

Strong northerly winds caused a drop in temperature of up to 12°C yesterday compared to the previous day

Newsroom July 11 08:14

A noticeable drop in temperature of up to 10°C occurred yesterday, mainly in the eastern mainland, due to strong northerly winds blowing with gusts of more than 90 km/h in the Aegean Sea. The wind intensity is expected to decrease today and during the weekend, with the strongest winds blowing mainly in the Aegean, eastern Crete and Karpathos. However, next Monday (14/7) a new heat wave with higher intensity is coming, according to Sakis Arnaoutoglou.

As the well-known weather forecaster pointed out, after 13-14/7, a stronger heat wave is coming, as the winds will drop on Sunday and Monday, when warm air masses from North Africa will enter the country. Thus, the average maximum temperature will be 37 degrees Celsius, but in the closed lowlands the thermometer will reach 38-39 degrees Celsius and in the mountains and coastal areas it will not exceed 32-33 degrees Celsius. Until July 19, the average maximum temperature will stabilize near 35-36 degrees Celsius.

In his post, Thodoros Kolydas says that after the drop in temperature, from Sunday the temperature is rising and will remain high and next week above the Mean Climate Value, quoting video data from the 850 hPa (1500m) level, which is often used to analyse temperature changes in the lower layer of the atmosphere.

A noticeable drop in temperature was recorded on Thursday, 10/07 by the weather stations of the meteo.gr / National Observatory of Athens network of automatic weather stations, which operate continuously and contribute to the accurate recording of weather phenomena.
