STEM Holiday program by GCM Schools a hit

Hands-on experiments and interactive activities, all in an environment where the Greek language was front & center

Newsroom July 14 09:29

The Greek Community of Melbourne’s Schools recently completed a highly successful and engaging educational initiative titled “STEM in Their Element – Discovering Water, Light and Air through Play and Exploration”, held during the winter school holidays.

The program took place on July 7, 8, and 10 across three different locations — Huntingdale, Footscray, and Balwyn North — offering a unique and creative learning experience for children aged 4 to 10.

Through hands-on experiments and interactive activities, our young participants had the chance to explore natural phenomena while having fun and learning through the lens of science and observation — all in an environment where the Greek language was front and center.

Transforming into young scientists, the children explored the properties of water, light, and air using imagination, teamwork, and cultural storytelling. From Tiddalik, the frog from Aboriginal Dreamtime to the Winds of Aeolus in Ancient Greek mythology, the program built creative bridges between science and heritage.

This initiative once again highlights the Greek Community of Melbourne’s ongoing commitment to promoting Greek language learning among the youth of the diaspora, while offering innovative programs that combine education with the joy of discovery.
