Poles in dozens of cities across the country took to the streets yesterday, Saturday, to protest against illegal immigration.
The demonstrations were organized by the political group “Konfederacja”.
At some gatherings, a minute of silence was observed in memory of a 24-year-old Polish woman who was murdered in the city of Toruń. The police have arrested a man from Venezuela in connection with the case.
In the capital, Warsaw, rival demonstrations were held in close proximity to each other. However, there were no reports of violent incidents.
Politicians from “Konfederacja” and the opposition party “Law and Justice” warn of a flood of illegal immigration. Migration flows have increased over the past decade, but official data shows that, so far this year in Poland, they are lower than in previous years.
