In dense forest the fronts that threatened settlements and pasture - Damage to homes - Two arrests for work in the forest

Newsroom July 23 07:51

The picture is better at first light of the big fire in Feneos, Corinthia, where hundreds of firefighters fought an overnight battle with flames burning through dense forest.

At dawn on Wednesday, 340 firefighters and 15 teams of hiking teams, 75 vehicles, and a team of drones for aerial surveillance and coordination were operating in Feneos. OTA water trucks assisted in firefighting efforts.
The firefighting efforts of the firefighting teams were supported by the firefighting teams of the Fire Department and the firefighting teams of the Fire Department.

The fire is not as intense as it was on Tuesday. The task of extinguishing it remains difficult due to the terrain and dense forest. On the positive side, there is no wind.

Fifteen aircraft and 12 helicopters were operating from the air Tuesday, two of which were for coordination.

Fire in a forest area in Feneos, Corinthia

From the first moment ,the fire that broke out at midday on Tuesday was described as very difficult. Mobilization was immediate, with a strong presence on the ground and from the air up to sundown.

As protothema.gr told the regional governor of the Peloponnese, Dmitris Ptochos, the situation is difficult and for this reason, many airborne means and water carriers were immediately requested from municipalities in order to limit the destruction.

Repeated messages from 112 for the evacuation of settlements in the area threatened by the fronts were repeated. Houses were damaged in Kastania, while there was an immediate danger for pastoralists in the wider area.

Three fronts of the fire

The fire that broke out in a dense virgin forest of fir and pine trees in Feneos Corinthia was immediately described by fire department officials as very difficult.

According to the fire brigade, the fire broke out around 15:15 in an inaccessible place, which made the work of the fire brigade difficult. As it was reported, the Fire Department’s Arson Crime Prevention Division proceeded to arrest two people who, it was announced, were doing work with a wheel and electrocution in the forest!

According to the announcement of the Fire Department: They were arrested today, under the spontaneous procedure, by officers of the Directorate of Arson Crime Prevention (D.A.E.E.) in cooperation with investigating officers of the D.I.P.Y.N. Corinthia, one (1) domestic and one (1) foreigner, for arson by negligence in a forest area during the process of hot work with a wheel and welding, in violation of the legislation, in an area of the district of Feneos Corinthia and an administrative fine of 11,812 € was imposed on them. The above are detained and will be led tomorrow, Wednesday, 23 July 2025, to the competent Public Prosecutor.
