The Fire Service is on high alert, as shortly after noon on Friday, a barrage of fire fronts broke out in various parts of the country.
The ongoing heatwave over recent days, bringing high temperatures, has created ideal pyrometeorological conditions for wildfires, having drastically reduced humidity levels.
At this time, firefighting forces are battling active fronts in Thesprotia, Messinia, Ioannina, Ancient Olympia, and Halkidiki.

Explosive Conditions This Weekend – Extreme Wildfire Risk
The country faces a nightmarish weekend, with the state apparatus placed on high alert. The Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection has issued a warning of extreme wildfire risk (Category 5) for tomorrow, Saturday, July 26, 2025. The situation is dire, with the risk exceeding all previous levels this year.
Deep Red Fire Map: Attica, Evia, Boeotia, and the Peloponnese in the Eye of the Firestorm
The Region of Attica – including Kythira – Central Greece (especially Boeotia and Evia), and the entire Peloponnese have been placed on alert. The fire risk forecast map resembles a war bulletin, with red zones dangerously spreading across densely populated and highly sensitive areas.
Wave of Danger Sweeping the Country
The threat, however, is not limited to red alert zones. Very high wildfire risk (Category 4) is also expected in: Western Greece, Fthiotida, Fokida, Zakynthos, Magnesia, nearly the entire North Aegean, Crete, and Thrace including Rodopi and Evros. Fire knows no boundaries, and the entire country now resembles a vast flammable field. Under these conditions, even the slightest mistake could lead to uncontrollable disasters.
Entire Mechanism on Alert – Citizens Urged to Stay Vigilant
Civil Protection has already notified all relevant services, regional authorities, and municipalities to increase operational readiness. Firefighting units, aerial support, and security forces are all on standby. But winning this battle isn’t only the state’s responsibility—it depends on all of us.
Negligence Kills: What Is Strictly Forbidden
From Saturday morning, any careless activity in the countryside can prove disastrous. Using a barbecue grill, discarding a cigarette, operating a circular saw in a field, or even smoking out beehives can trigger tragedy. Citizens are urged to avoid all actions that might cause sparks or flames, to comply fully with the burn ban, and to not underestimate the danger even for a second.
Conditions are explosive. High temperatures, winds, and drought are creating the perfect storm for fires to spread at uncontrollable speeds.
