The government is requesting European assistance through the RescEU mechanism to tackle the major fires raging in Attica, Evia, Kythera and Messinia, as the response is considered particularly difficult due to the cocktail of extreme temperatures and strong winds.

According to relevant government officials, the biggest problems are found in Evia and Messinia; however, the fires at the foot of Parnitha and Kythera are also very “difficult”.
