Donald Trump inaugurates new golf course in Scotland and returns to Washington to “put out fires”

The American president cut the inaugural ribbon, danced the YMCA and threw the first pitch

Newsroom July 29 11:02

The new “Trump” golf course at Balmoral on the east coast of Scotland was opened by Donald Trump, who spent four days at the complex he owns in the area.

The inauguration was held to the sound of bagpipes. TheDonald Trump cut the ribbon in the presence of his sons Donald Jr. and Eric, who have taken over the family business. He then engaged in dance moves to the rhythm of the Village People’s YMCA.

The new stadium “is inspiring. I can’t wait to play here today. We’ll play a quick game, then I’ll go back to Washington and we’ll put out fires all over the world,” he said before his guests, including the prime minister of Scotland John Sweeney, while recalling that Scotland is his mother’s hometown. “We wanted this to be the most incredible golf course on the planet. And there’s no doubt that it was achieved,” said his son, Eric Trump.

The identification of property with family businesses

After the ribbons and choreography, Donald Trump threw out the first pitch at the brand new stadium. After all, he likes to show off his athletic skills, although many experts question whether he has a talent for golf.

Once again, Donald Trump’s presence at the inauguration brought back the debate of the conflict of interest between being the US president and a private businessman. Since his return to the White House in January, political opponents and nongovernmental organizations have accused him of using his official capacity to promote, in one way or another, family businesses.

The new stadium, according to a document distributed to reporters, includes “the world’s largest sand trap,” dunes and lawns overlooking the sea and was designed “with respect for the environment.” However, when permission for its construction was granted by local authorities in late 2019, owners of neighbouring land had expressed their displeasure.
