Mitsotakis: Northern Evia recovery model to be applied in Kythera

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met today at the Maximos Mansion with the Mayor of Kythera, Stratos Harhalakis, to discuss support measures for the island in the aftermath of the recent wildfire

Newsroom July 29 06:10

It was agreed that a delegation, led by Evangelos Gkountoufas, General Director of Forests and Forest Environment, will visit Kythera early next week. The team will carry out on-site inspections of the affected areas to plan essential anti-erosion and flood-prevention projects. They will also explore the option of artificial reforestation using a variety of plant species to ensure more resilient vegetation in the future.

To support the local economy and boost tourism, the government will launch an aid program modeled on the initiatives successfully implemented in Northern Evia, Thessaly, and the Evros region. Since the current summer season is already in full swing, the new program will be rolled out next year and will run over an extended period, including the summer months.
