Panic broke out on Thursday afternoon (7/8) following a gas cylinder explosion in rental rooms in Asprovalta, Thessaloniki, which resulted in five Serbian tourists being injured.
“I saw people panicked and injured by glass shards,” said an eyewitness.
The explosion occurred shortly after 3:00 PM. Further details about the incident remain unclear.

Emergency medical teams (EKAV) responded immediately, with the first ambulances arriving on the scene within three minutes of the call. Two of the injured – a man with 1st and 2nd-degree burns on 40% of his body and a woman with 1st-degree burns on 20% – were transported in stable condition to Thessaloniki’s “Georgios Papanikolaou” General Hospital.
All five injured individuals are Serbian nationals.
Meanwhile, the 86-year-old owner of the rental units has been arrested. Authorities are investigating the causes of the accident.
