On Thursday afternoon, the Port Authority of Hersonissos was informed that a rented jet ski, carrying two foreign nationals (a 53-year-old Belgian man and a 54-year-old Spanish woman), overturned in the sea area of Analipsi, Hersonissos, resulting in the 54-year-old woman sustaining an injury to her right leg.

The injured woman was taken to the General Hospital of Heraklion “Venizeleio,” where she is being treated. The Second Port Department of Hersonissos of the Central Port Authority of Heraklion, which is conducting the preliminary investigation, arrested both the 53-year-old operator and a 32-year-old Georgian, who was responsible for renting watercraft, for violations of the following:

  • Article 15 of the Penal Code: “Crime committed by omission”
  • Article 26(a) of the Penal Code: “Culpability”
  • Article 28 of the Penal Code: “Negligence”
  • Article 291(1)(e)(gg) of the Penal Code: “Endangering the safety of railways, ships, and aircraft”
  • Article 314(2) of the Penal Code: “Bodily harm through negligence”

The operator did not possess the required speedboat operator’s license necessary to rent and operate the jet ski.
