For an hour, doctor and paramedics performed CPR on Vesyropoulos without success

Despite the difficult terrain, an ambulance and an EKAV (National Emergency Aid Center) motorcycle arrived quickly, the Ministry of Health reported, noting that CPR efforts had already begun immediately by a doctor and an off-duty paramedic in Kalogria

Newsroom August 21 06:41

For an hour, paramedics attempted to revive Apostolos Vesyropoulos, but were unsuccessful, the Ministry of Health said in a statement regarding the death of the Secretary of the Parliamentary Group of New Democracy.

The 59-year-old politician suffered cardiac arrest while at Kalogria Beach in Sithonia, Chalkidiki, after feeling unwell.

The Ministry noted that EKAV reached Kalogria quickly despite the difficult terrain (in 21 minutes after being notified) and emphasized that despite CPR efforts, there was no response.

It is also worth noting that CPR efforts had begun before the ambulance arrived, performed by an off-duty EKAV paramedic and a doctor on site.

Full Statement from the Ministry of Health

“At 12:42, EKAV received a call about a cardiac arrest at Kalogria Beach, Chalkidiki. The call was immediately forwarded to a rapid response motorcycle and an ambulance. Despite the difficult terrain, both the ambulance and the motorcycle arrived at 13:03.
At the scene were an off-duty EKAV paramedic and a doctor who had immediately begun CPR, without response. CPR continued with all technical means by the EKAV paramedics, again without response.
The patient was taken at 13:48 and transported to the Agios Nikolaos Health Center, arriving at 14:19.
Death was confirmed at the Health Center.”
