Kick-off in Super League 1 – Opening fixtures, European tickets and key dates

The Super League 1 championship kicks off on Saturday with three matches – reigning champions Olympiacos also in action

Newsroom August 23 10:11

The new Stoiximan Super League season for 2025/26, the 67th edition of Greece’s top football division, begins on the weekend of August 23–25.

Matchday 1 will be spread over three days: the season will start on Saturday night (23/8) and conclude on Monday night (25/8).

As with last year, the opening of the new League will feature two matches. Kick-off will take place simultaneously at 20:00 on Saturday (23/8) at “Kleanthis Vikelidis” and “Georgios Karaiskakis,” with Aris vs Volos and Olympiacos vs Asteras Tripolis (behind closed doors due to Olympiacos’ penalty from last season).

At 22:00 on Saturday, Panetolikos will host Atromitos in Agrinio, while Sunday (24/8) includes two more matches featuring teams playing in European qualifiers. At 20:15, AEK face Panserraikos in Nea Filadelfeia, followed at 21:00 by PAOK vs AEL at Toumba, with AEL returning to the Super League this season.

Panathinaikos’ match against OFI has been postponed, as Panathinaikos exercised their right to one postponement per season in order to prepare for their second-leg match against Samsunspor.

Matchday 1 will conclude on Monday (25/8, 19:30) with Levadiakos against newly promoted Kifisia.

As decided on draw day (9/7), the new season will include six breaks: four for international windows (September, October, November, March) covering World Cup qualifiers and playoffs, one in December for Christmas/New Year, and one shorter pause at Easter.

For the first time, the second round fixtures will not mirror the first round; matchdays 14–26 were determined differently during the draw.

The regular season ends on March 22 with all matches on the same day. Playoffs and playouts will start on April 4–5 and finish on May 21, 2026 (10th playout matchday), with a short Easter break (12/4).

The playoff/playout format remains as agreed last year by all 14 clubs:

Playoffs for the title (1st–4th place)
Playoffs for a European ticket (5th–8th place)
In the 5th–8th playoffs, teams enter with their points halved from the regular season.

Because Greece is ranked 15th in UEFA’s coefficient table, from the 2026/27 season there will be five European slots, allocated as follows:

Champion: Champions League 2nd qualifying round (Champions path)
Cup winner: Europa League 3rd qualifying round
Runner-up: Champions League 2nd qualifying round (Non-champions path)
3rd place: Conference League 2nd qualifying round
4th place: Conference League 2nd qualifying round

If the Cup winner qualifies through the league’s top four, then the winner of the 5th–8th playoffs will take the Conference League 2nd qualifying round spot.
