The two were secretly married in the early 1980s – in June 2024, the businessman and journalist passed away

A rare photo of legendary Greek actress Aliki Vougiouklaki with her second husband, Giorgos Iliadis, has resurfaced online, stirring memories of one of the most secret chapters in her personal life.

The picture was shared on a Facebook page dedicated to the late actress and shows Vougiouklaki with Iliadis in London in the early 1980s. The image was captured by her close friend and personal photographer, Marinos Kousoumidis.

A Secret Wedding in Athens

Vougiouklaki and Iliadis, a Cypriot businessman and journalist, were secretly married in 1979 at the small chapel of Panagia Gorgoepikoos, next to the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens. Their marriage lasted only a year before ending in divorce in 1980.

Years later, in 1993, Vougiouklaki revealed the secret marriage during an appearance on the popular TV show Enopios Enopio with Nikos Hatzinikolaou. That episode set record viewership ratings, with the actress famously joking to the audience: “I fooled you all!”

Remembering Giorgos Iliadis

On June 23, 2024, Giorgos Iliadis passed away in Cyprus at the age of 85. After his brief marriage to Vougiouklaki, he later remarried his first wife.

This rare photo is now being widely shared as a touching reminder of one of the greatest stars of Greek cinema and her lesser-known love story.
