Legal entities and citizens can co-sign documents through gov.gr

The main difference and innovation of the new service is that the document is created by the legal entity, whereas until now digital certification was initiated by a natural person

Newsroom September 11 02:32

Another step toward Greece’s digital transformation is being made with the launch of the new service “Digital certification or co-signature of standardized private documents” on gov.gr.

With this innovative service—an extension of the existing “Digital document certification” and “Digital certification of private agreements”—legal entities and citizens can now collaborate more easily, quickly, and securely through electronic mechanisms, replacing bureaucracy and time-consuming procedures.

The key difference and innovation is that the document is created by the legal entity, while until now the process was initiated by an individual who uploaded the document to gov.gr services.

The first application of this service concerns documents signed by individuals (insurance intermediaries, brokers, agents, policyholders, and legal entity representatives) in the context of providing insurance services. At a later stage, the service will be extended to other sectors.

Specifically:

  • The legal entity, through its information system, creates the relevant document, uploads it to gov.gr, and enters the tax IDs (AFM) of the involved individuals. Through interoperability, the document is then uploaded to each citizen’s gov.gr digital inbox for signing.
  • The individuals log in with their TaxisNet credentials to the “Digital certification or co-signature of standardized private document” service under “Citizen and Daily Life” → “gov.gr Digital Documents” and sign the document.
  • Once all parties have signed, the document is returned to the legal entity’s system where it is issued.

Every document issued through this service is automatically stored in each signer’s gov.gr digital inbox and Gov.gr Wallet. It carries a unique verification code, a QR code, and the advanced electronic seal of the Ministry of Digital Governance.

It is noted that for a legal entity to use this service to upload private documents for digital certification or co-signature to the gov.gr portal, it must first submit an application to the Coordination Service of the Unified Digital Portal (ΥΣΕΨΠ) of the Ministry of Digital Governance.
