The 27-year-old Egyptian involved in the fatal accident on the Malia–Stalida road, which claimed the life of 23-year-old Maria, was brought before the prosecutor in Heraklion.

He now faces felony charges and has been granted time to testify before the investigating magistrate of Heraklion on Monday, September 15, according to cretalive.gr.
The foreign driver of the motorcycle, who caused the tragic death of the young woman early Wednesday morning, had earlier been taken to PAGNI Hospital for toxicology tests. It should be noted that the 27-year-old was driving without a license and without insurance.

According to reports, after the accident, the 27-year-old attempted to flee the scene. He tried to restart the motorbike and leave, but due to the damage from the collision, the vehicle could not accelerate. Two German tourists who witnessed the entire incident followed him and managed to restrain him.
How the fatal accident happened
Footage from Kriti TV shows the 27-year-old Egyptian driving at high speed, veering into the opposite lane on Grammatikaki Street. There, he collided head-on with the 23-year-old woman, who was riding another motorcycle.

The crash was so violent that the young woman died instantly, despite wearing a helmet. An ambulance rushed to the scene, but paramedics confirmed she was already dead.
