The General Assembly of the UN passed by a large majority a statement that talks of “tangible, time-bound and irreversible steps” towards a two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians.
The resolution was approved by 142 votes in favour, 10 against and 12 abstentions, shortly before the meeting of leaders from around the world.
The seven-page statement emerged after the UN international conference in July, hosted by Saudi Arabia and France. The US and Israel boycotted the event.
