The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew was welcomed in Washington, where his presence was described as a “deep honor” by the American ambassador to Greece. Ms. Guilfoyle emphasized that “his spiritual guidance inspires hundreds of millions of people around the world” and added that the Patriarch’s visit to the United States “confirms the unbreakable ties between the United States, Greece, and the global Orthodox Christian community.”

She also expressed her intention to work closely with the Patriarch, underlining that the goal is “to promote faith, religious freedom, and friendship for future generations.” The Patriarch’s visit to Washington is part of a broader series of engagements highlighting the role of the Ecumenical Patriarchate as a spiritual reference point for Orthodoxy internationally, as well as the importance of religious diplomacy in U.S.–Greece relations.
