€2.2 million fine for Sklavenitis and Lidl by the Ministry of Development

The fines relate to violations of the profit margin cap and breaches of the Code of Conduct. Sklavenitis was fined €1,440,000 and Lidl €805,340

Minister Takis Theodorikakos stated that enforcement of the law for consumer protection is non-negotiable.

Details of the Fines

Two heavy fines were imposed by DIMEA (Directorate for Market Surveillance) on two major supermarket chains following inspections regarding compliance with the profit margin cap and the Code of Conduct.

Specifically:

  • Sklavenitis: €1,440,000 fine for violations of the Code of Conduct.
  • Lidl: €805,340 fine for violations of the profit margin cap.

The inspection for Lidl was ordered in 2024 by Minister of Development Takis Theodorikakos and concluded recently.

Following the completion of inspections conducted by DIMEA regarding adherence to the profit margin cap and the Code of Conduct, the following decisions were announced:

  2. Sklavenitis: Fine of €1,440,000 for violations of the Code of Conduct, following an inspection ordered in the summer of 2025.

As required by law, both companies were informed before the announcement of the decisions.

“The application of the law for consumer protection is non-negotiable. The law is law and applies to everyone. Retailers must show social responsibility towards all citizens without exception. We are committed to doing everything within our power to support the disposable income of Greek families, the middle class, and especially the most vulnerable social groups.”
