Maria Callas: Nikos Floros’ sculpture capturing Her voice unveiled at Dubai Opera

Standing three meters tall and weighing around 300 kilos, an extraordinary sculpture crafted from bronze and gold now graces the Dubai Opera. This monumental work by internationally acclaimed sculptor Nikos Floros is titled “Echo of Casta Diva – The Maria Callas Sculpture” and offers a one-of-a-kind artistic rendering of the legendary soprano’s voice

Newsroom September 29 06:14

The sculpture presents a three-dimensional visualization of Callas’ voiceprint, transforming sound into a solid, imposing form. By merging artistic abstraction with cutting-edge sound-to-form technology, Floros has created a piece that allows audiences to see and even touch the energy and emotion of Callas’ voice—a world-first in both concept and execution.

“Maria Callas’ voice cannot fade. It has been transformed into a sculpture—an eternal imprint. It is deeply moving to know that even people who cannot hear will now be able to touch and feel this miracle,” said Floros emotionally at the unveiling.

Dubai Opera’s director, Paolo Petroccelli, highlighted that the unveiling coincided with the season-opening premiere of Puccini’s La Bohème. Thousands of visitors attending in the coming weeks will thus have the opportunity to admire this specially created tribute to Callas, which for the first time in history renders a voice as sculpture.
