PAOK opens Europe Cup with win — Nearly blows big lead against Trepça

PAOK kicked off their FIBA Europe Cup run with an 85–74 win over Trepça in Thessaloniki, though the game got far closer than it should have

Newsroom October 15 10:49

The home team came out strong, dominating the first half with sharp shooting and tight defense. Cleveland Melvin and Thomas Dimsa were on fire from deep, while Stephan Brown controlled the tempo and dished out assists as PAOK built a 45–30 halftime lead.

Midway through the third quarter, PAOK seemed in full control at 56–37 — but Trepça wasn’t done. Led by JaCori Payne and Arslanagic, the visitors stormed back, cutting the gap to just one point (71–70) with four minutes to go. That was the wake-up call PAOK needed. Melvin and Dimsa answered with back-to-back threes to seal the deal and secure the win.

Brown finished with 18 points, 7 assists, and 4 rebounds, earning MVP honors, while Chad Brown led Trepça with 13 points and 10 boards.

PAOK walks away with the W — but they’ll know they can’t afford to switch off like that again as the competition heats up.
