The Kremlin said today that Budapest was chosen as the location for a summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump because Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has warm relations with Trump and constructive relations with Putin.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that preparations are just beginning for the summit, which will aim to promote a solution to the Ukrainian conflict and develop relations between Russia and the U.S.
In relation to reports that Donald Trump is proposing to stop the war on current positions, Peskov reiterated that Russia’s position on this issue has not changed.
“This is a newspaper article. In general, many different statements have been made on this issue,” Peskov noted. “This issue has been raised repeatedly, with different nuances, during Russian-American contacts, and the Russian side has responded each time. This answer is well known; the position of the Russian Federation remains firm,”he added.
