U.S. airspace could be closed if deemed unsafe due to shutdown, says U.S. Secretary of Transportation
The United States Secretary of Transportation, Sean Duffy, stated today that the Trump administration would shut down the U.S. air traffic system if it determines that the ongoing federal government shutdown makes travel unsafe.
“If we consider it unsafe… we will close the entire airspace. We will not let people travel. We are not at that point yet. Right now, it’s just significant delays,” Duffy told CNBC, adding that “there is certainly greater risk” as the shutdown continues.
